Growing up in a mining community in Ouray, Colorado, Scott Fedel was drawn to the stories, camaraderie, and culture of the industry long before he ever went underground.
His career path hasn’t been linear, and that’s the point. Scott’s journey at Cementation, which began two and a half years ago, has included time as a student, miner, engineer, and now estimator, starting underground at a project in Colorado as a Miner 2. Each step built experience, perspective, and opened new doors.
Today, Scott brings that hands-on understanding to his work, grounding estimates in real-world conditions and a deep respect for the people doing the work. His story is a reminder that mining offers room to grow, change direction, and build a career shaped by both experience and opportunity.
Scott’s advice for anyone starting in mining: It’s ok to fail, just don’t fail the same way twice.
