From Sterling, Kansas, Colton Sant’s path into mining was shaped early as a second-generation member of the industry, following in his father’s footsteps.
Since joining Cementation in 2024, Colton has built experience across both electrical and engineering roles through a variety of project assignments. His journey includes internships supporting electrical work on a project for a premier gold mining operation in Nevada, exposure to engineering design services, and hands-on electrical work on projects for a specialty supplier in Louisiana, hoist upgrades for underground operations in Nevada, and work at a site for a Tier One mining company in Colorado. Currently working as an electrical apprentice, Colton brings both technical education and field experience to his role.
What stands out most to Colton is the mining industry’s strong safety culture and collaborative approach. Integrating his electrical engineering education with hands-on installation has reinforced his belief in learning on site, adapting to new challenges, and building a strong foundation for future growth.
Colton’s advice for anyone starting in mining: Know your goals, get on site, and never stop learning.
