Meet Chad Huish, Project Engineer at Cementation!

February 20, 2026

Growing up just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, Chad’s interest in mining took root toward the end of high school after discovering the University of Utah’s Mining Engineering program. As his studies progressed, so did his appreciation for the industry and the essential role it plays in everyday life.

A graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Chad built a strong foundation through internships in underground coal mining and surface mining, followed by a year working underground coal operations after graduation.

Since joining Cementation in June 2024, Chad has gained experience across several projects. He began as a Shaft Miner on a vent raise project, where he was introduced to shaft mining and quickly found his niche. He later transitioned into a project engineer and shaft technician role, supporting construction efforts and he is currently contributing to a shaft project.

Hands-on experience early in his career has shaped Chad’s practical, solutions-focused approach, helping him bridge the gap between design and execution.

Chad’s advice for anyone starting in mining: explore different roles, gain hands-on experience early, and learn from the people around you.
