Canadian Institute of Mining celebrating 125 yrs. Cementation celebrating +100 yrs. Cementation Canada celebrating 25 yrs.

Together we celebrate a deep history of vision and innovation.

This year marks 125 years of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. In that time, CIM has been the premier platform for vision, collaboration and learning within the mining and energy sectors.

Just over a decade younger, Cementation’s roots go back 113 years, when Belgian, Albert Francois, founded the Francois Cementation Company in Doncaster, UK in 1910. In 1914, Francois patented the Cementation Process and successfully developed what is now known as cementitious grouting, specifically to allow sinking of shafts through water bearing, difficult ground for mining.

With numerous projects and ownership changes over the years, the decision was made to actively re-establish the Cementation group in Canada 25 years ago, again with a focus on innovative solutions for shaft sinking and mine development on technically challenging projects throughout North America and the world.

In 2023 we are pleased to acknowledge and celebrate both the CIM’s and Cementation’s legacy and future, with the 125 years long and 25 years short contributions to the modern Canadian mining industry.
