Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence and Partnership at Diavik

July 12, 2025

Since 2005, our collaboration with Kitikmeot Cementation Mining Development (KCMD) at the Diavik Diamond Mine has stood as a testament to the strength of teamwork, ingenuity, and dedication in underground mining.

In partnership with Rio Tinto, we’ve surpassed 100 kilometres (328,083 ft.) of development work, including decline and drift advancement, bulk kimberlite sampling, portal construction, and comprehensive site preparation. Our collective efforts delivered extensive cover drilling and grouting programs, alongside the introduction of forward-thinking mining approaches like rapid advance and shotcrete support. Crews have also carried out substantial rehabilitation to meet the evolving demands of operating in the challenging conditions of the Canadian Arctic.

We take immense pride in our crews’ commitment to safety, recently marked by four consecutive years without a lost-time incident. Equally important is our enduring relationship with Kitikmeot Corporation and the Inuit communities it represents—a partnership built on mutual respect, capacity-building, and alignment with community-driven priorities.

As Diavik approaches the end of its mining life, we reflect with gratitude on the legacy shaped by our people. The departure of our development crews signals the conclusion of a significant chapter—one defined by achievements earned through perseverance, relationships grounded in trust, and a shared pursuit of excellence. Our team looks forward to carrying on the Diavik tradition throughout the project wind-down.

It has been an honour to nurture and grow these relationships over the past two decades. To KCMD, Rio Tinto, and every individual who contributed to this journey, thank you for 20 extraordinary years.
