We are proud to partner with Komatsu on a groundbreaking technology trial of the MC51 hard rock continuous miner at Niobec’s Mine site in Québec. This innovative machine is designed to transform hard rock excavation, and the full scale trial will put its capabilities to the test in real-world conditions. Over the length of the trial, we hope to meet or exceed current conventional drill and blast excavation rates.
The work on-site will further highlight how the MC51 delivers precision cutting optimized for medium-hard rock, reducing costs and cycle times associated with overbreak. Equally important, this technology has the potential to drastically improve the health and safety and risk management by eliminating the need for explosives in mine development and removing people from a critical hazard zone.
This collaboration with Komatsu represents a significant step toward safer, faster, and more sustainable mining practices — with the potential to redefine how the industry approaches hard rock excavation.
